Aishwarya avoids awkward moment with Salman

At the Star Screen Awards, the actress enters a lounge only to exit quickly after spotting Dabangg star relaxing there with friends At the recently held 17th Annual Star Screen Awards, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan avoided a potentially awkward moment with Salman Khan, with dignity and some quick thinking.

A source present at the event said, "The closing act of the awards was performed by Aishwarya on many of her popular hits.

As she reached the backstage much ahead of time for her performance, she decided to rest at the nearby lounge till her performance was announced.

But before Ash could enter the lounge she bumped into Vidya Balan and the two exchanged pleasantries for some time.

After her conversation Ash went inside, glanced around and was seen walking out of the room swiftly. Ash stood quietly outside and refused to budge till her performance was announced."

When the organisers of the show, Cineyug, and the people around were wondering about the reason for Ash's sudden exit, Salman Khan was suddenly spotted casually strolling out of the lounge.

"It was obvious that Salman was inside (the lounge) but Ash with her usual poise, assessed a potentially embarrassing situation and left quickly thus averting it completely.

After Salman left, a crew member rushed to Aishwarya and told her that she could now probably go and relax at the lounge but Ash refused and stayed outside, " the source said.

The source also informed that while Aishwarya rushed out from the lounge, Salman appeared to be perfectly calm and collected even after spotting his ex-girlfriend.

"Salman has moved on and has no issues about bumping into anyone anywhere. He was relaxing with some friends and when he spotted Ash, he appeared unmoved and continued with his conversation."

Salman Khan takes off with family and friends to celebrate his birthday in the UAE

Every year, the actor brings in his big day at their Panvel farmhouse but this year, the 'Khan'daan and 40 friends flew to Dubai for the merrymaking.

Says a source, "Salman didn't want to bring in his birthday at the farmhouse this time. Though it rocks for the guests, his family members end up playing hosts and don't enjoy themselves.

So he decided to have them party without the headache of taking care of everyone.

Dubai is almost like Salman's second home and it was an obvious decision. Initially he wanted to take all his pals and family on a friend's aircraft but it wasn't available so they travelled by Emirates."

Salman, his parents Salim and Salma besides Helen, his sisters Arpita, Alvira with husband Atul Agnihotri and brother Sohail with wife Seema and son Nirvaan left yesterday morning.

Asin and Salman stuck on a tree for 3 days

A simple scene turned into a nightmare for Salman Khan and Asin when the two had to hang from a tree for three days

It was meant to be a simple jungle sequence to be shot in Goregaon's Film City for Anees Bazmi's forthcoming film, Ready, but it turned out to be a nightmare for the lead pair, Salman Khan and Asin.

The scene revolved around Asin being lost in a jungle, and scampering up a tree, with Khan following suit. Says a unit source, "Both Salman and the director were not sure if Asin could carry it off.

Climbing a high tree is not quite what you'd expect a heroine to do, especially since this was a massive tree with sprawling branches. One look at the size of the tree and the director decided to use a duplicate for Asin and Salman."

But Asin would hear none of it. "She insisted on doing the dangerous scene herself. Salman looked at her as if she was crazy. He finally said, 'Lady, you have balls of steel.' A harness was attached to her shoulders, and she was lowered on to the tree. Salman had no choice but to follow suit, " says the source.

What was meant to be a simple shot, took three whole days to complete. "The unit had not anticipated disruptions and distractions from other film units that were shooting in the jungle. Suddenly there was a funeral procession that passed under the tree, and that had Salman and Asin crack up."

Many other distractions too brought the shooting to a grinding halt.

So exhausted were the two actors, that the shoot had to be cancelled. Asin's shoulders were numb because of the pressure from the harness.

"Salman and I were shooting on top of a tree for three days. Was it dangerous? I don't care! It is my childhood fantasy to climb a tree, " laughed Asin.

That's a heavy price to pay to see your fantasy come true!

Salman Khan comes free for girls

He supports cause of girl child, performs tomorrow at fundraiser for free
PS: His usual performance fee is close to Rs 2 crore Salman Khan, who is known for supporting various causes, is now extending his support to an initiative for the girl child.

The actor will be performing at the WAVE (Women against Violence and Empowerment) concert tomorrow night at the MMRDA grounds in Bandra, and Sallu, who charges close to Rs 2 crore for a single performance, is doing this one for free.

Priyanka Chopra is also performing at the event. However, she has been paid a token amount for her act. WAVE, an initiative for the upliftment and welfare of women, is a brainchild of Ashi Dua and Aliya Rashid.

This year the initiative is on a larger scale, with the motto: Education for Women. Wave II will sponsor the education of a group of young girls and help build a school.

When the Dabangg actor heard about the school and the education of the girl child, he immediately agreed to be a part of the show. Says Ashi, "Both Salman and Priyanka were extremely supportive when we approached them.

They are taking time out from their busy schedules and rehearsing hard for their respective performances. All this is for a good cause, for helping the women of the country and I am sure their association will help our endeavour." Jacqueline Fernandes and Neha Dhupia are also performing at the concert.

Musical medley

Salman's act is a medley of his hit songs, including his last film Dabangg. The actor has also done an audio-video presentation asking the people to educate the girl child.

"Salman asks the people of India 'If I can talk about educating women and the girl child why can't you?' He has prepared the AV himself and is taking a keen interest in the whole thing as he really feels for the girl child."

Meanwhile, the desi girl will pay tributes to Hema Malini and Saira Banu and also perform to her chartbusters. Both Muskaan and Nanhi Kali the two NGOs WAVE is associated with will adopt 50 girls at the event.

Bhai says why

Salman says, "Today, a lot of women are in positions of great authority and respect from male dominated fields like politics to literature and journalism.

This should stand as an example as to what is possible when a girl is allowed to study and allowed to follow her dreams."

He feels that helping build this school will give these women and young girls an opportunity to succeed and reach their full potential, or at least the platform from where the journey will begin.

"I am proud to be able to lend my support to such an endeavour. I believe that the first thing we need to tackle is the mind set towards the girl child.

We need to convince people that women are just as capable, if not more, of accomplishing all the great dreams and responsibilities that are expected from the boy of the family.

People need to realise that educating their daughters is providing them with the means they need to always be able to achieve their full potential."

Talented women from all walks of life be it sports stars, designers, actresses or businesswomen will be felicitated at the event.
